How is a train made? We will show it at the HOBBY Fair

Would you like to see how a train is made? From the initial idea, through design and testing, to its first journey. During the HOBBY Fair in Poznań, we will show how we have been constructing rail vehicles for 80 years.

The HOBBY Fair, which will take place on the last weekend of November, is a real paradise for enthusiasts – both young and old. Here you can see model cars and trains, play board games and retro computer games, admire LEGO constructions, or follow races of remote-control vehicles.

Station Pavilion 8A

Model railways are an integral part of these fairs. Microcosms through which trains travel – with stations, cars waiting at the crossing, and cows grazing nearby. They always attract many visitors.

This year, the model zone will be in pavilion 8A. Many of the trains on display here were constructed at the former Tabor Railway Vehicles Institute, which is now part of the Łukasiewcz – Poznań Institute of Technology. That is why Łukasiewcz – PIT will open a special educational zone, where it will show how trains are constructed.

Platform 7

At stand 7 in pavilion 8A, visitors will be able to learn about the entire process – from idea to approval testing. We will show photos of some of more than 600 rail vehicles designed during the center’s 80 years of operation. The Central Design Bureau, which later transformed into the Research and Development Center for Rail Vehicles and then into Tabor Railway Vehicles Institute was established on September 1, 1945.

We will also show how the tools used by designers have changed over time. Today, specialized computer programs are used; however, a few decades ago, a drawing board, a pencil, and a slide rule were essential. At the stand, you will be able to see both these historical tools and copies of old designs.

There will also be designers, of course! This will be a rare opportunity to talk to people who know the train construction process inside out, as well as rail vehicles.
